Year six conference

last Tuesday we had the year six conference, we did so many fun activities like the newspaper tower, the cup tower, the planking challenge and many more.  My favourite was the planking challenge because it really showed how well we could work as a team and our communication skills.

some highlights where the newspaper tower because we did really well and our tower was standing also we placed third. Another highlight was the activity with Mr Walter where all 104 of us were standing in a circle and we had to rest on each other’s laps. It took us a couple tries but eventually we got it.

a challenge I faced was at the planking challenge at the start I was planking for a long time which effected me in the long term so I showed persistence and pushed threw. Persistence was the theme of the day, when ever something is hard you don’t give up.

have you ever had a year six conference day and what did you do in it?

Animal adaptation

The wide footed mammal who spits out saliva when threatened, it’s double layered eyelashes Prevents getting dusty sand in it’s eyes. do you know what animal it is?

There are two types of camels the Bactrian camel and the Arabian camel. The Bactrian camel Lives Asia and has two humps. The Arabian camel lives in North America, the Middle East and India it also has one hump.

Camels usually eat grass, grains, wheat, oats, dried leaves, seeds and sometimes thorny twigs that won’t harm them.

A Structural adaptation is storing water in it’s hump, Camels store water in it’s hump because in the hot desert with not that much water it needs to save water when it needs it. Another Structural adaptation is the wide feet on the camel, a Camel has very wide feet because it spends all of it’s life in sand so it has wide feet so it doesn’t sink in the sand.

There is only one behavioural adaptation I could find and that is when camels feel threatened they will spit out saliva to defend themselves.

A Physiological adaptation is an Arabian Camel can drink 135 litres of water in only 13 minutes can you believe that! Another one is all Camel can run up to 60 kilometres an hour!

I got my information from the book Mammal Kingdom and my prior knowledge.

What is your favourite animal and why?

Favourite book chat book 2019

Throughout 2019 we had a number book chat books. We are one of the lucky schools who do book chat and my favourite book chat book was Crossover by Kwame Alexander.

The genre of Crossover is sport.

You will like this book if you like ghost because they are both about basketball and problems in there family life.

There is twins called Josh and Jordan they both love basketball but  Jordan also loves girls almost more then basketball but Josh is jealous of Jordan and gets mad and throws a ball in in Jordan’s face and almost breaks his nose and now Josh’s parents are very angry at Josh, how is Josh going to get out of this situation?

I enjoyed this book because it has a lot of romance and really love romance in books also it has basketball in it and I don’t really read much books about basketball so it was a really good change. Also I enjoyed when I get to read Josh and Jordan playing a game in a poem.

What is your favourite book that you have read?

Toonallook Reflection

Last week our class went to Camp at Toonallook and we had an amazing time there.

A highlight I had was kayaking because we got to catch jellyfish and after we went kayaking we went for a swim in the river. Also it was my birthday on Camp and we had a special lunch. After the lunch we got to have some delicious cupcakes then we got to play in the playground.

A challenge I faced was bike riding because we rode for a very long time and it was very tiring for my legs. Another challenge I had was eating food at Camp because I am Vegan I had to try a lot of new foods and some of them I didn’t really like.

A PLA I used was communication when we did kayaking. I had to communicate with my partner to say where we where going so we didn’t crash or flip over. It was very hard to control the kayak so we had to communicate a lot.

Have you ever been on Camp and if you have where did you go?

What was your favourite thing you did on Camp?

Hard road ahead reflection

This term in integrated we have been working on the Hard Road Ahead. In the Hard Road Ahead we built two shops from the 1850’s. The buildings I was responsible for were T. Murphy California Tent Maker and The Battery House.

The challenges that Chiana and I faced were painting the right colour, and how I overcame that challenge was by mixing colours and experimenting with different colours. Another challenge was agreeing on decisions, like deciding if we should add windows to our building.

One major highlight was the feeling of relief after finishing my buildings. Another major highlight was getting a house point for helping out a team member who forget to take The Battery House home, so I showed initiative by taking it home and finishing it at night.

Some advice I would give to the year fives next year is try to cooperate with your partner as much as you can and even though your partner might do something different to what you think you need to trust that your partner can do it.

Something that I learnt about myself is that I can be very creative. Something I learnt about Chiana was that she has great ideas that I can benefit from to make our shops the best that they can be.

The PLA’s that Chiana and I used were resilience. We used resilience when we had one night before the presentation and we had to fix The Battery House, but I had no spare time so I used resilience by working hard on it late at night. It turned out to be a success.

Some important dates were the 3rd of December 1854 (the Eureka Stockade). 9th of June 1858 (the welcome nugget was found). August (21-24th) 1851 (Gold was first found in Ballarat).

Some important figures in the 1850s were Anastasia Hayes, Peter Lalor, James Scobie, James Bentley and Sir Charles Hotham.

My favourite shortlisted book

I think what makes a good information book is clear information so it easier for the reader to understand. Also you must need photos that relate to the text so the readers can relate to the text. Another one is that you need true facts so the reader can interpret the information.

My favourite shortlisted book was Make Believe because I loved all the illusions in it and how it made your brain think twice. Also I loved the beautiful illustrations.
